Robert Fildes, Ph.D. (Chairman) Dr. Fildes currently serves as President of SB2 Inc. Dr. Fildes has extensive experience in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector, including terms as President & CEO of Cetus Corporation, President of Biogen Inc., and Vice President of Operations for the Industrial Division of Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. He is currently a director on numerous boards of publicly and privately traded biotechnology companies. Dr. Fildes holds a D.C.C. degree in Microbial Biochemistry as well as a Ph.D. in Biochemical Genetics from the University of London.
Pat Brady, M.B.A. Mr. Brady is Vice President Investments, Life Sciences at Growthworks Capital. He joined Growthworks in 1998 with eight years of business and consulting experience with emerging companies. He was heavily involved in taking two companies public - one TSE listed and one listed on the NASDAQ. Mr. Brady has an M.B.A. from the University of Western Ontario. He sits on the boards of Celator Technologies Inc., NeuroMed Technologies, NeuroStream Technologies, Protiva Biotherapeutics, and Twinstrand Therapeutics.
Gerald Chan, D.Sc. Dr. Chan holds a Master of Science degree in Medical Radiological Physics and a Doctor of Science degree in Radiation Biology from Harvard University. After a post- doctoroal fellowship at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dr. Chan co-founded Morningside, a diversified investment group. Since 1986, Dr. Chan has been a director of publicly listed Hang Lung Group Limited, a Hong Kong property development company. He is a board member of several private biotechnology companies, including Critical Biologics Corporation, MetaCure Inc., Stealth Peptides Inc, and Vaccine Technologies Inc. Dr. Chan serves on the advisory board of a number of universities, including the John Hopkins University - Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American Studies, Stem Cell Society Advisory Board, and the Science Advisory Council of UCLA. He is a trustee of Fudan University in Shanghai.
Michael Cross, Ph.D. M.B.A. Dr. Cross is a Senior Vice President and Portfolio Manager at JovInvestment Management Inc. Dr. Cross has considerable experience in the financial and operational management and executive governance of life science companies. He has been Chief Operating Officer of Viventia Biotech Inc. and Managing Director of a large cGMP contract manufacturing organization. Dr. Cross has also held a variety of senior positions at MDS and MDS Capital Corp, including Vice President of MDS Proteomics and Senior Investment Manager for MDS Capital. Before joining MDS, Dr. Cross spent seven years with the Department of National Defence, including serving as a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Trauma and Physiology Group, Defence Research Agency in Toronto. Dr. Cross earned both a Ph.D. (Physiology) and an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto.
Brenda Irwin, M.B.A. Ms. Irwin is Director, Venture Capital for BDC Venture Capital. Her focus is on biotechnology investments. Her approach is largely the result of an initial career in the computer industry as marketing manager for a national distributor and her experience as science educator for the North York Board of Education. Eight years of professional leadership paved the way to becoming an investment professional. She participates as guest speaker at life sciences and high tech conferences. Ms. Irwin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology and Biomedical Science from the University of Guelph and an M.B.A from the University of British Columbia.
John R. North, Ph.D., President & Chief Executive Officer Dr. North most recently served as Sr. Vice President, Scientific Affairs and Chief Scientific Officer of QLT, Inc. Prior to joining QLT, Dr. North was Managing Director of Monotech Laboratories Ltd., Biotechnology Consultant at PA Technology Ltd. and spent 12 years with various U.K. and U.S.-based subsidiaries within the Beaufour Ipsen Group, most recently as Head of Exploratory Development at Ipsen International in the U.K. Dr. North received a Ph.D. in Immunology and an M.A. in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, England.
